1989 Ty plush are identifiable by their 1989 dated tush tags. They were initially write in orders in 1989 then officially introduced in the next annual catalog as “The 1990 Collection”.

They were released with 1c (TYWL) and 2nd generation hang tags for the 1989-1990 production year. Depending on when they were retired, they are found with later tags during those production years.  

In 1989 ty transitioned many styles from flat to “3 position” standing. Bandit had a short lived run as a flat laying style just before transitioning to the standing version.

Note Scruffy the bear and dog did not appear until the 1991 catalog and would be expected to have a 1990 tush tag, I believe they reused patterns patented in 1989 for Big Beanie Bear and Max. 

Peter, Beanie Bunny tan and white briefly also had a 1989 tush tag.
