Ty Warner’s long term partner during the beanie mania phenomenon was Faith McGowan. Faith and her two children Lauren and Jenna Boldebuck were often involved with naming and dreaming up new Beanie Baby designs.  One of those dreams belonged to Jenna Boldebuck when she designed a ghost who later became Spooky the Beanie Baby. Early shipments of this beanie state
“Designed by Jenna Boldebuck”.

Versions: Spooky was originally released as “Spook” in September of 1995, this was quickly changed to “Spooky” in October of 1995.  Also during the 3rd generation tag run, tags originally note “Designed by Jenna Boldebuck” which was later omitted.

What does bolded mean?

This is in reference to the text inside the yellow star on the front of the 4th generation hang tag. Earlier tags seem to have a bolder font that has rounded edges. The later 4th generation tags which I do not indicate as bolded will have a lighter non-bolded font with sharp 90 degree edges to each letter instead of the rounded edges.

Hang tag and tush tag combinations

3G/1G – 3rd generation hang tag and 1st generation tush tag
3G/2G – 3rd generation hang tag and 2nd generation tush tag
4G/3G – 4th generation hang tag and 3rd generation tush tag
4G/4G – 4th generation hang tag and tush tag

“SUFRACE”   VS. “SURFACE”

The 3rd generation tush tags were initially misspelling “SUFRACE” later corrected to “SURFACE”. 4th and 5th generation tush tags will have the correct spelling only.
