Fraser the bear is one of the original 12 attic treasures.
Fraser was originally a prototype by the name of Carlin.
The story told is Ruth Fraser the designer and her daughter Nola Hart also a designer of many Ty Attic Treasures owned
“The Teddy Bear Garden” a gift shop filled with artist bears made from various teddy bear artist in Canada. They also carried Ty products direct from Ty Inc. and when Ty Canada became the distributor, Ty Warner was asked to visit “The Teddy Bear Garden” on one of his trips to visit Ty Canada. Ruth recalls he came in and observed many of the designs in the shop just as if he were any casual customer. He then presented her with Carlin and asked to buy her design and all rights. From then Attic treasures were created and Carlin was redesigned and named Fraser after Ruth Fraser.
Fraser’s first issue is found with an artist tush tag and Hong Kong hang tag. The bow is lighter in color and cut vertical on one side and flat on the other. This run has a more silky plush. The paw pads are darker in color. This was indicated by Ruth Fraser to be the first production run of Fraser. She did note that this run was incorrect, the fabric should not be silky and the eyes were too big. 10,000 examples were returned to the factory to be destroyed.
Frasers’s continued first issue is found with an artist tush tag and Hong Kong hang tag. The bow is darker in color and cut flat on both sides. This run has a more silky plush. The paw pads are still darker in color.
